Care of Baby Tips

Hong Kong People are always busy with their work that they hire Foreign Domestic Helpers to take care of their baby. However, due to the different in Cultures and some may have communication problem with the employer, it may cause some mistake.

Maid.HK have list out some of the Baby Caring Tips.

Take a Bath
1. Add cold water in the Baby washing tub and add in hot water. Use your hand to test the temperature of the water and the water temperature should stay at 96-100 degrees, add in some baby liquid soap into water
2. Use one hand to support the neck and head of baby and gradually put baby into the tub
3. Use a cloth and dip some water to clean the baby's body, take special care of skin folds around the neck, armpits, elbows and lower back and skin folds of the thighs
4. To wash the back, use hand to support the front of baby
5. After bathing, use a towel to pat dry the baby's body. If Baby's skin is dry or has diaper rash, can apply Baby lotion

Important Details
  • Baby may cry during bathing, be careful while bathing
  • Make sure that the room ventilation is okay and room is warm
  • Do not put too much water in the tub
  • Do not put the baby in the tub while water is still running
  • Do not use soaps, shampoos and bubble baths as they may dry out baby's skin

  • Changing of Diaper
    1. After opening the diaper, bundle the old diaper and take away the diaper.
    2. Bring the baby's leg up, clean away any urine and remaining feces with wet tissue. Use cotton balls to clean up the baby's bottom
    3. Cover up a new diaper, and tie it up properly. If the baby is a boy, aim the penis downward to keep wetness from drenching his clothing

    Important Details
  • Baby's skin are sensitive, he/she could easily get rashes, so must keep the child's bottom clean and dry.
  • Make sure to have a clean and safe place to change baby's diaper
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before changing diaper
  • When cleaning the bottom, pay attention to the baby's lower back and skin folds of thighs
  • The diaper should fit the baby snugly, too tight will irritate the baby's skin.

  • Feeding Milk
    1. Before feeding the baby, test the temperature by dripping some on the back of your hand
    2. To help the baby swallow with less air, hold her at 45 degree angle
    3. While feeding, make sure that the milk is at the teat and neck of the bottle
    4. Stroke the baby's back to bring up trapped air from the baby's stomach
    5. Hold the baby upright over your shoulder and rub the back
    6. Sitting the baby upright and patting the back while supporting the chest and chin with your hand to let the baby burp

    Important Details
  • Avoid too many airs going in the baby's stomach while feeding
  • Carry the baby while feeding
  • Pay attention to the amount of milk dripping out of the teat
  • If to reheat the milk, warm the bottle by standing it in a container of hot water (Do not heat in a microwave)
  • The best temperature of the milk should be closed to the temperature of the human body

  • Sleeping
    1. Use a firm mattress and light bedding without a pillow on baby's crib
    2. Hold the baby and rock him/her to sleep before putting down to bed
    3. Babies should be sleeping face up to avoid suffocation
    4. Don't leave toys on baby's crib
    5. When baby is awake, be sure to move hanging toys out before carrying the baby out of bed

    Important Details
  • Baby's room is ideal to kept dark and quite
  • Some babies however sleep better with background music that buffers the sudden loud noises.
  • Remove the pacifier strings out of reach of baby to avoid accidents.
